Well, the weather sure has been up and down this season. We had light rain all day Saturday and most of the day yesterday and temps in the mid 30s. Today we are under a winter storm warning and it’s snowing out now. I headed out for a ride hitting some Sayner, St. Germain and Eagle River trails. St. Germain groomed last night. Trails were soft with the warm temps but smooth. The trails that weren’t groomed had bumps. You will find puddles and more slushy areas. I did still find trails that were all white and in good condition. Carbides scraped in more areas and there’s brown areas with snirt coming through. There are spots with bare ground in corners. There was heavy traffic Saturday so trails did take a hit from that.

The plowed road trails are the areas that were most affected by the recent thaw. Some still have somewhat of an ice base while others are more bare pavement than ice.

Most lakes are not marked and should be considered unsafe. Please stay off the lakes until they are safe. There are some pockets of deep slush in areas.

I was surprised that the trails held up as they did with all the bad weather we had. I’m going to rate conditions from poor to fair to ok to good. It’s a mixed bag out there. If we get more snow today, it will greatly help bring the trails back to good shape.
