Vilas county trails are “temporarily” closed. Why do we bring this up… well, this is a new term created this year. Before, trails stayed open until it was obvious the season had ended, in which case they were closed (pretty simple concept). This year we’ve recently had warm weather leaving the trails unrideable and now trails are “temporarily” closed. Since there’s a snowstorm predicted for tonight/tomorrow which has the potential to give us enough snow to ride again, we’re getting asked if the trails will reopen. In the past, once trails were closed, they didn’t reopen again that season. Will that change with “temporarily” in front of closed… who knows. The first thing that has to happen is for the weather “experts” to get it right and we actually get a big snowstorm. Then, we’ll find out if “temporarily” actually means something different or if it’s just a term they created to give us hope when all along they planned on closing the trails for the season.
