We both headed out for rides hitting some Sayner, Arbor Vitae, Lake Tomahawk, Sugar Camp, Rhinelander and St. Germain trails. The Sugar Camp, Lake Tomahawk and St. Germain trails I rode had been groomed. Sayner and Arbor Vitae had groomed most of the trails I rode. Rhinelander groomed some but not others and the ungroomed trail I hit was getting very bumpy. The groomed trails were smooth and packed in tight. The ungroomed ones had some chop and bumps and some pushed out, icy corners. I’m going with a fair to excellent rating. Some trails are sweet – all white, smooth and so much fun to ride. Then there’s areas with bumps. You’ll see more areas that are brownish from snirt. The carbides were scraping on the inside of some corners , especially the ungroomed trails, because they are thin on snow. Areas that are seeing sun all day are getting some melting.
Plowed road trails range from having a good ice base to areas of bare pavement. Carbides will scrape in areas.
Lakes are in pretty good condition. As always, watch out for ruts and bumps.
Just a reminder… STOP signs are put up for a reason. Whether you ride fast, slow or in-between, not acknowledging them is just plain stupid and is a good way to get in an accident or get a trail closed.
