Temps remained in the lower 30s yesterday with fog so some more melting. I headed out for a ride hitting some Sayner, Eagle River and St. Germain trails. The Eagle River and St. Germain trails I rode had been groomed. Sayner hadn’t groomed the ones I rode. Trails still had a crusty layer on them. The groomed ones were smooth. There is not much lube out there so your sled will run hotter. I’m going with an overall good to fair rating on trails. They were overall smooth with a few bumps the groomer couldn’t get out. More corners are getting pushed out and thin on snow or icy. Others are all white with plenty of snow on them. The carbides were scraping on some corners and on trails that have more snirt and a few bare spots. Saw a lot more snirt today giving some trails a brownish color. Most plowed road trails are solid ice but you will still scrape on the shoulders.
Lakes are slushy if you get off the trail. There are areas of nasty ruts from where sleds went through the slush and the tracks froze. More lakes are getting marked but there’s still quite a few that aren’t. We don’t advise riding a lake unless it’s marked or you know it’s safe.
