Temps finally ventured above zero so headed out for a ride to see how trails are. I hit some St. Germain and Sugar Camp trails. With the extremely cold temps, grooming appears to have been limited. It looked like St. Germain hasn’t groomed for 2-3 days while the Sugar Camp trail I rode seemed to have been groomed in the last day or two. St. Germain trails ranged from smooth to getting some bumps. I also noticed all traffic rides down the middle of the trail and on some stretches, actually created a deep track. In some cases, this track was as much as a foot lower than the  sides of the trail. It would be nice if riders spread out, or better yet ride on their side. The Sugar Camp trails I rode were smooth and nice. My carbides were scraping more today – not just on the insides of some corners, but at times in the groove created by middle riders. Most trails I rode were pretty white but there were some snirty sections.

Plowed road trails have a decent base but there are areas that are worn through and carbides will scrape.

With the light snowed we had last week and all the wind, lakes are getting smoother from the snow drifting into ruts or between bumps.
