Some on and off light snow fell yesterday and we got around an inch. I headed out for a ride hitting some St. Germain, Eagle River and Sayner trails. The St. Germain and Sayner trails I rode had been groomed. The Eagle River ones hadn’t. It was a big difference between the groomed and ungroomed trails. The groomed ones were smooth, groomers pulled snow back onto corners and were packed in tight with the cold temps. The ungroomed ones had bumps and majority of corners were pushed out plus the carbides scraped more on these. You will still find that conditions vary quite a bit. I rode some good stretches with plenty of snow, were all white and wanted to ride all day. I’d still say majority are fair with snirt, pushed out corners and carbides scraping in places. There are still poor areas that have minimal snow cover so carbides scrape a lot. Watch out as a lot of corners are pushed out with the insides all ice or thin on snow – I saw several places where someone went through a corner and into trees. With cold temps and some grooming, expect trails to improve the next couple days. Road trails don’t have much of a base and your carbides will scrape a lot.
Lakes are starting to get bumpy.
I’m rating trails overall in fair condition. Some wet, heavy snow would be great…
