Now that trails in Vilas county finally reopened we both headed out for rides hitting some Sayner, Eagle River, Conover and St. Germain trails. Most had been groomed. I did pass a Sayner trail that hadn’t been groomed. Some trails were packed in tight while others were soft from the recent snow. Most trails were smooth with some small bumps but could see where bumps from before this snow are still there and will become numerous as more sleds are out. We did have a couple days of thawing and some rain before the snow so some trails had puddles on them. Some of these areas are a mess where the groomer went through with bare ice, ice chunks and mounds of frozen snow so be careful (would’ve been nice if some sleds could’ve run these first to help pack them down before the groomer went through). Some trails were all white and great to ride. Found some areas that had bare ground or were thin on snow.

Note: Some Oneida county (south of St. Germain) will open at noon today.

Plowed road trails ranged from having good ice base to mostly bare pavement. Of course most plow drivers were trying to plow the ditch too so no banks to ride on.

Some lakes are not marked anymore. If you don’t know the lake and where to go, best not to cross it.

I’d get out and ride as there’s a warm up predicted to start Sunday. In fact, Oneida county trails (just south of St. Germain) have announced their trails will close Monday morning at 8am.

We took lots of pictures today to best show what trails are like.
