Temps reached the mid to upper 30s yesterday. Last night we got some some rain and it changed to snow. Hard to say exactly how much we got as it varies from 1-3+” so let’s just say 2 inches. I headed out for a ride hitting some Sayner, Eagle River and St. Germain trails. None of the trails I rode had been groomed because of the warm temps and rain. Some trails did deteriorate while others held up fine. Most trails were smooth overall with a few bumps in areas. More corners are getting pushed out and thin on snow or icy. Others are all white with plenty of snow on them. The carbides were scraping on some corners. Definitely seeing more snirt in the St. Germain area. As you head north trails get whiter. Be careful as the rain and wet snow brought down more branches and did find a tree across the trail (it was close to home so got a saw and took care of it). Plowed road trails overall are holding with an ice base but did have some melting so carbides were scraping in areas.
Lakes are slushy if you get off the trail. There are areas of nasty ruts from where sleds went through the slush and the tracks froze. More lakes are getting marked but there’s still quite a few that aren’t. We don’t advise riding a lake unless it’s marked or you know it’s safe.
Note: In the pics some trails will look whiter than they are due to the fresh snow.
