We picked up a little more snow last night so from Thursday night to this morning, we got about 6.5 inches of snow. I headed out for a ride hitting some Sayner, Lake Tomahawk, Eagle River and St. Germain trails. The St. Germain, Eagle River and Lake Tomahawk trails I rode had been groomed. The Sayner trails I rode hadn’t been groomed. The groomed ones were smooth overall but still had some bumps the groomer didn’t flatten out completely. With cold temps, they were packed in tight. The ungroomed ones ranged from fairly smooth with some small bumps to really bumpy and awful. There was some beautiful trails that made me want to ride all day. Others were so bumpy I couldn’t wait to get off them. The carbides did scrape on more corners corners on both the groomed and ungroomed trails. Some trails are brown from snirt while others are mostly to all white. Most plowed road trails have a decent base but some are starting to have areas where the carbides will scrape and there are a few bare spots.
Most lakes are marked. There are still some ruts from where sleds, ATVs and UTVs drove through slush and the tracks froze. We don’t advise riding a lake unless it’s marked or you know it’s safe.
It was a very heavy traffic weekend and trails got beat up. However, with a grooming or two most trails will be nice again.
Note: In some pics trail appear whiter than they are due to the new snow.
