I headed out for a ride hitting some St. Germain and Sugar Camp trails. All the trails I rode had been groomed. I’m going with an overall good rating on trails. They were overall smooth with a few bumps the groomer couldn’t get out. Trails had a soft feel to them as temps are in the 20s. Some corners are getting pushed out and thin on snow or icy. Others are all white with plenty of snow on them. The carbides were scraping on some corners. Saw a lot more snirt today giving some trails a brownish color. It looked like some groomers were really trying to smooth the base by digging the drag in. This did lead to areas where they scraped down to bare ground – especially on the crests of hills. Most plowed road trails I’ve been on have an ice base so in good condition. I did ride one that was plowed off and the carbides did some scraping.
Lakes are slushy if you get off the trail. There are areas of nasty ruts from where sleds went through the slush and the tracks froze. More lakes are getting marked but there’s still quite a few that aren’t. We don’t advise riding a lake unless it’s marked or you know it’s safe.
