I headed out for a ride hitting some St. Germain, Eagle River, Sayner and Conover trails. The St. Germain, Conover and Eagle River trails I rode had been groomed. Sayner looked like they had groomed earlier in the day so had traffic on them which led to some bumps. There was a lot of traffic the past few days and trails took a beating. That being said, I’m still going with an overall good rating. The groomed ones were overall smooth with some bumps the groomer didn’t flatten completely. The ungroomed ones ranged from fairly smooth to bumpy. After not riding for a couple days the biggest difference was more corners are getting pushed out making them thin on snow and some icy. The carbides were scraping on some corners. I found some really nice areas that made me want to turn around and ride again. The plowed road trails I’ve been on have an ice base so they’re in good condition.
Lakes are slushy. Where sleds rode through the slush it froze and there’s lots of nasty ruts. Most lakes aren’t marked yet. We don’t advise riding a lake unless it’s marked or you know it’s safe.
Now that the holiday week is over, traffic should become lighter giving the groomers a chance to catch up. Expect trail conditions to get better (unless the weather warms up too much).
