We had a little bit of snow overnight – added up to a whopping half inch. Headed out for a ride hitting some St. Germain, Sayner, Conover, Eagle River and Lake Tomahawk trails. St. Germain and Conover groomed their trails I rode. Sayner groomed some trails but not others. The Eagle River and Lake Tomahawk trails I rode hadn’t been groomed. The groomed ones were smooth. The ungroomed ones varied from fairly smooth to getting bumpy. There are a lot of corners that are all pushed out and icy. Please be careful as some are hard to stay on the inside even with sharp carbides. I’m going with an overall rating of fair/good although you’ll see everything from poor up to excellent. There is a lot of good stuff out there but you’ll see spots where the base got wore through and some bare ground is showing. Most of these are found on the insides of some corners. The carbides were scraping more after the heavy weekend traffic. Some stretches were really nice, all white and really fun to ride. Others are getting brown with snirt mixed in. One area to be careful on is the corners. Most plowed road trails are very icy with very little snow and some bare pavement in spots.
While our base is holding in most areas, it’s getting worn through in spots. We could use some snow to help build it back up. We’re still hoping the storm for today moves north and hits us but it looks like it’s going south again…
