I headed out for a ride hitting some St. Germain and Lake Tomahawk trails. The St. Germain trails I rode were groomed. Lake Tomahawk had groomed their trails south and west of town but not the ones north and east. I also passed an Eagle River trail at an intersection and it had fresh groomer tracks on it. The groomed trails were good overall – being smooth and packed in tight with temps close to zero last night. The ungroomed trails ranged from fair to good. There were some bumps but not enough to ruin a ride. These trails were softer and had some pushed out corners. Speaking of corners, there are some that are icy and/or thin on snow and you’ll push right through. My carbides did scrape in spots today but not as much as the past couple days. As more traffic hits the trails there will be a little more scraping. There is snirt on the trails – some have a fair amount while other little to none. I found some excellent areas today and some trails were so nice it was tempting to turn around and ride it again. These are the best conditions we’ve had so far this season…
