Snowmobile Trail Report for Wednesday, February 8, 2017

We picked up about an inch and a half of snow between yesterday and last night along with a little sleet and freezing drizzle. I went for a ride hitting some St. Germain, Eagle River, Sayner and Lake Tomahawk trails. St. Germain, Eagle River and Lake Tomahawk had groomed and their trails were smooth. Sayner hadn’t groomed but their trails were smooth overall with some bumps in areas. I’m keeping most trails in the fair to good category. This new snow will help the trails but it’s not quite enough to get most in the good or better category. There’s a few poor spots that are thin on snow. Most trails are an icy base with some snow on top. Then there’s some that are really nice with a good ice base and plenty of snow on them. There are a lot of icy spots and some corners are very icy so easy to push right through them. One of my biggest complaints was scraping the carbides on the insides of some corners and on plowed road trails. There are some bare spots on the insides of a few corners and on some plowed roads trails. There is snirt out there leading to brownish colored trails. The groomers are doing a good job pulling snow back onto the icy corners but traffic will push it off as the day goes on.

Bottom line is the riding is decent with some good to excellent areas. However, you will scrape the carbides in spots and there are icy trails out there. It would’ve be nice to get the 3-5 inches of snow that was predicted. Since we didn’t, let keep hoping for more snow.

Note: In the pics, some trails will look whiter than they are due to the fresh snow.
