Snowmobile Trail Report for Tuesday, January 27, 2015

We ended up getting 1 1/2 to 2 inches of snow yesterday. It helped but the trails really need more. Headed out for a ride hitting Sayner, Arbor Vitae, Lake Tomahawk and St. Germain trails. Arbor Vitae groomed and Sayner and Lake Tomahawk groomed some. The groomed trails were definitely better than the ungroomed ones. They were smoother and the groomers had pulled snow back onto the areas they could. Found several areas that are thin on snow and you will scrape lots. The ungroomed trails were bumpy, had more snirt, and most corners were pushed out and icy. Trails are really getting brown and have more snirt mixed in. Some had more rocks coming through. There are nice stretches out there that are all white and have plenty of snow. Definitely scraped more today on trails, plowed road trails, corners and where there are bare spots.

The warm temps and heavy traffic from the weekend did take a toll on trails. Expect to find a mixed bag out there from  poor spots, majority in the fair to ok range, some good and also some very good stretches. You will see  a lot more snirt and brownish trails and the carbides will scrape more.  Some corners are down to bare ground as well as some areas on trails where the sun hit.  I still found some good to excellent trails that are mostly to all white with good snow cover, even in the corners. Try to get off the main corridor trails for the best riding. While there is plenty of decent riding, we could definitely use more snow to freshen things up and give the groomers more to work with. You will have to ride on some bad trails to get to the good ones.

FYI – Eagle River has rented a groomer and it has been out every day since Friday so their trails are improving.
